Astons' Playground Redevelopment
Open Morning at the Pavilion at the Recreation Ground on Sunday 5th February 10am-12 midday.
Many of you helped with the consultation back in 2010 regarding the playground, but unfortunately we failed to get that particular grant. Now with ARC (Astons Recreation Committee) keen to push the upgrade project forward, we have taken those ideas and added in new ones from speaking to families in the villages, which represent over 40 children. But there are lots more children and we want your thoughts and if you have the time and energy, your help, to get the project up and running. We are aiming to have some new equipment in place by the summer – a big challenge.
We are then going to apply for funding from various sources to make these plans come to fruition. We will also be holding fundraising events throughout this year, starting with an adults-only School Disco at 8pm on Saturday 17th March. Come along and relive your dancing youth! It would be great to see as many of you (and of course your children) as possible at the Open Morning, but if you cannot make it, please let us know your thoughts and suggestions via email.

THE ASTONS COMMUNITY WIFI PROJECT - BT RACE TO INFINITY
We are pleased to say that SODC have recently approved in full the grant application made by the Village Hall Management Committee for £8,000 towards the Astons Wifi and Online Initiative.
This grant, together with the BT Race to Infinity prize of £3,000, means that the project team have nearly reached the total project cost, and therefore it is hoped that installation can commence once the outcome of outstanding grant applications to the Nominet Trust and the parish councils is known. OLYMPIC ASTONATHLON
This year's ASTONATHLON will be held ON SUNDAY 6TH MAY 2012 and we have decided to raise the challenge and make it an OLYMPIC ASTONATHLON. It will still be a 10km run but we have increased the cycle to 40km.The format will stay the same, starting and finishing at the pub.You can do the whole lot or either run or cycle in a team.
